weekend recap

This weekend was so fun but also really exhausting and I'm wishing I had a few more days off to recover!

On Friday night we headed to Lake Texoma. We planned on waiting until Saturday morning because M and the friend that was riding with use both had to work until 10 pm Friday, but we figured the lesser of two evils was staying up really late Friday versus waking up to leave at 6am on Saturday!

The cabin we stayed in was so adorable! Everything in it was miniature, it was like a little dollhouse.
Our tiny bedroom (with no room to walk).

Upstairs is a sleeping loft. Note how the stairs are twice as tall as normal stairs, which made getting to and from the sleeping loft quite dangerous haha.

I'm used to my DSLR now, I forgot how I ever took clear pictures on a point and shoot.

M's head wasn't far from the ceiling.

Tiny doorways that make me look like a giant.

I forgot to take a picture of the front, but here is one from Google. We were on the far right. Aren't they adorable?

Saturday we headed over to our friend's lake house to eat breakfast and load up the boats, then headed to the lake!
Putting the three boats in.

The one we rode on (M matches the boat with his bright yellow swim suit haha).

I couldn't get a good enough picture without getting in the water with my camera, but there were like 20 yachts all tied together. It was just like the country sond "Redneck Yacht Club" haha. The tiny (in comparison) speed boat in the front is another from our group.

We parked right off the island and just hung out in the water all day!

Saturday night we had planned to go to a bar called the The Island that sits right on top of the water, but everyone was so tired we just went to bed at like 9:30 instead!
We'll have to come earlier in the day on Friday next year so we'll have time to do it the night before.

Sunday we headed home pretty early in the morning because I wanted to be able to relax a bit before I had to work.
Sadly, C's grandma passed away a week ago and they were having a memorial get together type thing last night at her home, so I went along to help watch C. He was quite the party animal and kept me busy chasing him through the crowd all evening!

Afterwards, I headed home to watch the season premiere of Trueblood with M! They threw in a huge twist this season that I wasn't sure I would like, but it ending up being so good!

I'm so sleepy and sunburnt today, I'm ready for it to be the weekend again already!

oh happy day :)

Sorry (again) for the lack of posts lately! Our Florida trip was SO busy, and I've been trying to catch up on rest ever since (trying and failing that is haha). One day I'll put up the few pictures we did take when I get them off of both cameras/my phone and all in one place.

Today I'm linking up with Happy Home with all the things making me happy at the moment :)

I am so obsessed with Pinterest! I think I sat and pinned things for two hours when I got home from work yesterday. It's so neat and fun. I've always saved catalogs and taken screenshots on my phone of ideas, but this is so much easier and more organized!

My new Pandora charm bracelet from my sister and my first charm from M! It's a penguin :) I love penguins and they are kinda our thing (since penguins choose only one mate for their whole life of course!).

This picture of M playing with three of my nieces. I love that they love him too :)

That we will be spending our day here tomorrow! (the islands on Lake Texoma)

My new huge Vera Bradley tote that I got at the outlet in Orlando! It's so big and has so many pockets. I can't wait to use it for school in just over two months :)

And what's making me the happiest is that it is finally Friday and I get off work in an hour and a half! Even though I only worked four days this week, it has been THE longest week ever. C has decided not to nap at all, only sit in his crib and scream until he's hoarse instead. And then of course be terribly grumpy the entire day because he's exhausted. Hooray for Friday!

weekend recap!

Friday night M and I went to Cotton Patch for dinner and then saw this with a friend

I wasn't sure that I wanted to see it but then after it got a really good Rotten Tomatoes score and everyone was talking about it we decided to go. Plus we had free tickets from a gift card I got for my birthday so I figured we should use them on a movie weren't sure we'd like and then wouldn't feel bad for wasting the money! I actually really liked it!! It wasn't too scary but still had some parts that made you jump. It was also really funny surprisingly! (Not like it was a comedy but the characters just said a lot of funny things.)

Saturday M and I had lunch at Jersey Mike's again (he's obsessed lately) and got our cars washed. Then M went to the Indy car races with some friends and I babysat C.

Yesterday I cleaned the whole apartment and then basked in the cleanliness for a while haha. I think that's going to become a new Sunday ritual, I love starting the week with one less thing to worry about!
When M got home from work we went to Red Robin and watched the first quarter of the mavs game, and then to his parents' to watch the rest. It was so awesome seeing them win the finals and make history, it gave me chills! So proud to be a mavs fan today :)

Today I'm reading this book

M has to read it for one of his online criminal justice classes this summer and it's is really interesting so far! I figured I'd read it too so I can help him out with his discussion questions :)
(I still need to finish False Memory also!)

I have SO much to do this week before we leave on Friday. I know this week at work will drag because I'm so excited but the evenings will probably fly by because I'll be so busy!

Just a random sidenote, sorry my pictures have been too big/small or really blurry lately! Blogging on my phone is so easy and much more user friendly than the computer (surprisingly), but choosing the picture sizes is kind of a shot in the dark, and I can't see what they really look like until I'm on a computer. So I apologize the last few posts have had blurry pictures!

Also, I'm getting tired of this blog layout, especially because I can't change anything I want to change (post title fonts, the width of the page so my pictures aren't always going crazy). When we get back from our trip I'm going to work more on designing my own! (Expect something a lot more simple!)

What's for dinner

Not surprisingly, I'm babysitting C again tonight. In an effort to be healthier, I went to the grocery store to find something for dinner instead of Chickfila (what I really wanted, haha).
I ended up with grilled chicken and broccoli...

(My chicken refused to cook all the way through so I had to slice it up. I only ate half of this huge plate of food don't worry haha)

And grapes for dessert!

Here's hoping I can make myself continue to eat healthy the rest of the week!

randoms

Last night M and I went shopping for a suit for him to wear to the wedding next week (and another we are going to in July). M hates shopping and called to try and talk me out of it multiple times while I was at work yesterday haha. Luckily after almost giving up, we managed to find him one that we both agreed wasn't too huge and boxy (like they all seemed to be)!

I forgot to take a picture of him, but here is the same one from the website (except this one is navy, his is black). Still need to get him a shirt, and I told him I get to pick out the tie :)

We booked our rental car for the Florida trip on Monday so all the important things are finished! I am getting SO excited to see all my family and get away with M for a long weekend!

I do still have a few more smaller things to take care of before the trip. I went through all of my clothes last week and set aside everything that no longer fits (which is just about everything!) so I can take them to Plato's Closet. I have at least two black garbage bags full! It is so crazy to see the size I was wearing last summer compared to this summer, I have gone from a size 14 to a size 6! (At American Eagle/Abercrombie/other juniors stores I wear a 6. At Gap/Loft/other more adult stores I am somehow wearing either a 0 or a 2, which is insane because I am not THAT small. Vanity sizing?). It's so weird because I didn't feel THAT heavy last summer and I still don't feel like I'm anywhere near as small as when I was a 6 in high school. But anyways, I need to wash and fold all those clothes and take them to Plato's Closet, hopefully for a little extra spending money for the trip. Orlando has an H&M (we don't here in Dallas) and so I'm thinking we need to make sure to get over there so I can pick up some cute and cheap clothes that everyone lucky enough to have an H&M in their city seems to find!

Unfortunately I realized a couple weeks ago my swim suit was too big as well. I usually purchase them online from Victoria's Secret but I waited around too long wavering between a few different ones and then didn't have enough time to make sure it was shipped before our trip (without paying a small fortune that is). Yesterday after work I headed to TJ Maxx to look for some shirts for M and found a swim suit for myself as well! If you are willing to dig, and not get too disappointed that they only have one of everything and probably not in the size you need, they have really expensive brand bathing suits for cheap!

The top has thin white stripes that seem to have disappeared in this wonderful quality iphone picture.  It from last season's line by Vix and was originally $140 but I got it for $40!

I also found M a couple of shirts for half off :)
Sorry these pictures look so wrinkly, apparently the bed doesn't make a very good backdrop haha

Tuesday I took C outside for literally 15 minutes to play with his water table and when we came back in this is what my legs look like (try to ignore how unflattering this picture is)
Haha I tan really easily! Since then I've been bringing a strapless shirt with me to wear outside so I don't have a farmer's tan haha.

Today I got off work early since C's mom has been out of town all week and I've had to be there an hour early everyday. I came home and showered then M and I went to lunch. He had to head to work after so I went to Brookhaven and got my student ID made!

I am really so excited for school to start :)

Speaking of school, I talked to C's mom about my schedule and we are going to try to make it work with me staying with them through the fall (and perhaps longer, we have to see). I am going to take a drastic pay cut, but honestly it doesn't seem like I would make much more by quitting and getting a retail or restaurant job where I would be able to work weekends because I would be making much less hourly. I am praying I get a Wednesday clinical because C will have mother's day out on Wednesdays starting this fall. I would then be working Monday, Tuesday, and half a day Thursday. That would mean I'll be making half as much as I am now! If I don't get lucky enough to get in the Wednesday clinical, I'll only be able to work Tuesday and half days on Wednesday (I'd pick him up from MDO) and Thursday, and that case would be even less money. Yikes, I'm nervous about how I'm going to make it work, but I know it'll work out okay and all be worth it in a year and a half!

I'm off to spend the rest of my day laying around and catching up on dvr-ed shows :)

fashion friday

It's technically still Friday for a few more minutes (well at least when I started haha)! Here are some things I'm loving for summer, a few of which I've already purchased!

I'd love to have this skirt in multiple colors but sadly it's sold out everywhere. I was lucky enough to grab this tan color in my size though last weekend! Hopefully they make more so I can get this summery orange/red color as well.

Target had a simpler (and much less expensive) version of this dress last year and I wish they would bring it back! I love how simple it is and how it can be worn super casual or dressed up.

One of my Memorial Day sale purchases! i love how bright and summery they are as well!

While the sailor buttons aren't my favorite, I do love the grey linen, and I think these would be cute for going out for drinks next week for a friends birthday... maybe I'll get them with my newest gift card :)

For some reason I can't find the full photo, but I am in love with this maxi dress! I saw it in a catalog C's mom got in the mail and now I REALLY need it but even with a coupon it's just too much :(

I have been looking for white linen pants everywhere for the past few summers but I never find any that I really want. Most are high waisted (from the women's section) and SO expensive. Though these aren't white, they fit so well and low like I'd always imagined and I got them 30% off on Memorial Day!

I've always liked the scarf and plain white tshirt look on other people, maybe this summer I'll try it on myself haha

I think I need one of these for lounging by the pool at the resort, but M doesn't agree haha. At least it's only $9!

ps. I added links this time in case you want to check anything out! It's so much easier to do things on M's macbook pro than the dinosaur computer I use at work when C is sleeping haha.

long weekend recap

I had a fantastic long weekend, despite some bad luck.

Thursday night we watched this movie

I thought it was so cute! I remember wanting to see it in theatres but it didn't get great reviews so we decided to wait and then I forgot all about it until I saw it on on demand.  I love some of Jennifer Lopez's other romantic comedies like Maid in Manhattan and The Wedding Planner, and this one didn't disappoint me :) I recommend renting it if you haven't seen it yet!

Friday evening on my way to M's parents' house after work I noticed my car acting funny and it seemed at one point like I wasn't going to be able to make it there without the car dying. I stopped to get gas and then tried again and realized the car wasn't wanting to shift so I had to let off the gas to let it move into the next gear otherwise it would start to stall. The check engine light also came on now too. I was really worried because I figured this meant there was something wrong with the transmission and I know that's basically the most expensive thing to fix! I made it to M's parents' and then forgot about it while we went out to dinner.
When we were ready to leave M reminded me about my car and we decided to drive it AutoZone where they will diagnose why the check engine light is on for free with their computer thing. It turns out it wasn't the transmission but some sensors had gone bad and they were causing that problem. I called M's dad and he said he would come with me to the shop in the morning so we could try to get it fixed.

Way too early Saturday morning I drove back over to M's parents' house so we could take the car to get fixed. They told us it would be $95 just to tell us what was wrong with the car and I was starting to get worried about how I'd pay for all this. In the past few months my car has needed $250 worth of wiring work to make the AC work again, $285 worth of new brakes and rotors, and just last weekend I needed two new tires, which M's parents were so nice to offer to pay for, and that was another $200! And I haven't even begun to address all the extra issues brought to my attention by the mechanics at both the brake and tire place! My car seems to be falling apart and it's only a 2007 :(
Fortunately I am SO blessed to have such amazing people in my life and M's parents told me they'd like to pay to get everything fixed at one time so that I don't have to stress about my car and can just focus on finishing school. I am so touched that they love me so much and think of me as part of their family already and would be willing to do such a thing. I hate that they have to and I wish I had the money on my own, but again I'm so blessed to have them in my life since that isn't the case.

After dropping off my car Saturday I went shopping with M's sister (and got my dress for the wedding in a few weeks!) and then watched the Manchester United vs. FC Barcelona game with M's family, who are huge Barcelona fans (they won!). I think they have gotten me hooked and I'm even more excited now that we are going to see them play Club America at Cowboys Stadium in August! I have to find myself some Barcelona geear to wear to the game.

After M got off of work he came over and we had Jersey Mike's for lunch/dinner (it's pretty good if you haven't tried it yet, but I think I prefer Jimmy John's), and went swimming for a while.

Sunday M had to work and I was car-less so I decided to spend my day reading by the pool. Unfortunately it wasn't open yet when I walked down there so I came home and cleaned the entire apartment instead!

Then I sat down with some popcorn and decided to rewatch season three of Trueblood before the fourth season starts in a few weeks (we LOVE Trueblood, it's pretty much my favorite show!).

After M got home from work we went and got lunch, yummm :)

Then our friend Tim came over and we went and hungout at the pool that was now finally open!

Before we left to go to the pool. I'm trying to get better at taking more pictures!

Afterwards we met up with some other friends to see The Hangover II. It was okay, but of course the first was much better. They actually followed the exact same timeline and structure of the plot, so it was super predictable. Some parts were a little over the top as well. I'd wait until it comes out on DVD to see it. I REALLY want to see Bridesmaids because I saw a Making of... show on HBO about it and it looks hilarious! Hopefully sometime soon!

Monday M and I went shopping and I picked up a few more things to bring on our trip and took advantage of some memorial day sales. I'm going to do a summer fashion fashion Friday so I'll include my purchases then, plus a few things on my wishlist :) Then we had lunch at Olive Garden, one of my favorite restaurants and one of M's least favorites haha. We also stopped by the fish store and got a new fish! He stays on the bottom and cleans the sand. I don't have a picture of him :(

I spent the rest of the evening getting a little further in False Memory, which has thankfully gotten a bit more interesting lately!

I would be excited for this short week but it turns out it won't be so short afterall! On Saturday I have my first day of my summer class, Dosage Calculation, from 8am to 5pm. Afterwards I have to babysit C so that is sure to be a long day! Oh well, hoping to make the best of this week and can't wait for a day off on Sunday :) Plus I have a lot to look forward to (and do!) with a couple of vacations coming up in the next few weeks!
