new blog look and weekend recap

Things are looking a little different around here! I knew that I wanted to do something more with my blog layout when I created the blog, so I chose a temporary one that was pretty basic to begin with. Then a few weeks ago, a few blogs I read got professional makeovers and it gave me a few ideas and made me really want to redo the layout of mine. I took a class in high school that taught html and coding and all that and we made layouts from scratch, but I have long since forgotten all of that! I looked at some of the places that they got their new layouts from and it is pretty pricey for a premade one and ridiculously expensive for a custom layout. I know that I can dig back in my knowledge (and use some software M happens to have) and create something just as cute on my own, so I'm going to start working on that soon! In the meantime, I found this layout from Delicious Design Studio and I think it's pretty cute. I made the header (with the exception of the bird), and want to try and change the titles to a cuter font like the one in the header. My favorite thing about the new layout is you don't have to wait for the writing to load twice (because of the font), and the font is much easier to read/exclamation points don't look like Ls. That was driving me crazy!

Of course I also changed the name of my blog! I couldn't think of a name when I made it so I just put down "ramblings of a 20something" quickly and, though I liked it okay, I knew I wanted to think of something better. I'm still not 100% sold on this name either, but I do like it much better so it may end up sticking around.

I haven't been doing a whole lot of blogging lately and I definitely want to get back to it so I'll start with a recap of my weekend (ignore that it's already halfway through the following week)!

Friday was a looooong day. I usually work 8:30-5:30, but Friday night I was also babysitting C so his parents could have a date night. So I was at work from 8:30am to 10pm! They gave me a dinner break, during which I picked up some delicious Chipotle, and then I spent the rest of the evening after C went to sleep playing this

It's the Boggle iPhone app, and I am totally addicted. I realized I am not that great at Boggle, but I think I am starting to get better. I like it way more than Words with Friends and it's totally worth the $.99, so if you have an iPhone/iTouch/iPad, go buy it :)

Saturday I woke up and headed to a workout class at the gym. It's called SET, which stands for strength endurance training. It's basically three minutes of weight lifting with a barbell (such as chest press, rows, squats, lunges, etc.) followed by three minutes of endurance training, which is like really intense step with handweights. It is so hard and I often feel quite dizzy/nauseous during the course of the class but it is an awesome workout. According to the trainers you can burn up to 800-900 calories per class. I'd love to go three times a week but hardly any gyms offer it in the evening.

After coming home and getting ready, M and I headed to Frisco. We ate lunch at Dave & Buster's and I definitely do not recommend it! If you are doing the eat & play combo it might be worth it, but our food was really expensive and M didn't like his at all. We were trying to go to the Chili's that used to be in the mall, but since it disappeared our choices were D&B and Cheesecake Factory, which is what we should have gone with!
After lunch we headed over to Ikea. I am totally in love with this couch.

(I like it the sofa without the chaise paired with a loveseat, but M likes this better and it's way more affordable.) M and I are talking about getting an apartment together when his lease is up perhaps, and I've been busy furnishing and decorating it in my mind. I originally wanted this in a light brown, but when we saw them in person the grey looks much nicer and the fabric is better. Unfortunately, aside from the fact this would require a lot of saving (probably one of the most expensive items in ikea), it's sold out everywhere with no date of when they might possibly get more. Sad, but we have a while until we move so maybe it will come back! I found lots of other cute things at Ikea I want for our future house, but I think I'll do a separate post. :)

After some more shopping at a few other places, we headed home to get ready to go out with some friends for a birthday. We went to Blackfinn for drinks (and dinner for M and I since we had been running around and skipped eating), and while I really liked my buffalo chicken sandwich, I probably won't go back there for drinks because it was so expensive! And, there were like 12 of us and all they could seat us at was a tiny bar table with four stools that we had to vacate at 9:45 before the party that reserved it showed up. Overall, I was not impressed with Blackfinn and was surprised so many people I know love going there for drinks.
M and I at Blackfinn (cut out the rest of the people in the picture, not sure they'd like to be on the blog :))

After Blackfinn we headed over to The Improv. We've been once before and liked it a lot, the person we saw was pretty funny. This time they were doing a special event called 10x10, where instead of one headliner  we saw ten different standup acts and each had only 10 minutes. I really liked the idea a lot because you weren't stuck with one person all night if you really didn't think they were too funny. After all ten of the comedians though they decided to "surprise us" and bring out the headliner from the earlier shows, Donnell Rawlings who is from Chapelle show. It was cool we were getting to see him without paying for it, but it was also 1am at this point and I just wanted to go home! Overall it was really fun though!
Us at the Improv (hopefully half our group doesn't mind being on the blog lol)

Sunday I had a test to take at 8pm so I spent the day studying. I really hate that our tests for this class must be taken from 8-9pm on Sundays, all I want to do is get it over with and I have to sit around and wait for it all day!

So that was my busy weekend! The next one is coming up soon, I can't wait :)
